A most unusual color for a Dalea. We are familiar with the typical pinkish-purple flowers of our most common Daleas but roundhead prairie clover is pure white. Blooming in late summer in undisturbed prairies roundhead prairie clover is covered with hundreds of dense marble-sized flowerheads—we cannot understand why this native flower is not planted more. Native to a narrow range from Kansas through Oklahoma to Texas.
Bees, butterflies, and other pollinators prefer roundhead prairie clover over most other flowers when in bloom and we have seen plants covered with pollinators, bees and butterflies happily sharing the same plant.
Because of the fine leaves the flowers, which are held above the foliage, stand out. When not in bloom roundhead prairie clover is non-descript, blending into the garden border until it puts on its late-summer show.
Planted singly, in groups, drifts, or even a low hedge, every garden should have a place for roundhead prairie clover.
