In addition to making cats go gaga catnip has been part of traditional medicines for centuries.
Catnip tea is sedating, muscle relaxing, and soothing.
It's also an alternative to smoking tobacco & the other green buds people smoke.
After a hectic day I enjoy Cat Mint Tea before bed. I'll use one to two heaping tablespoons of buds put in a tea bag or fine mesh strainer steeped for 3 minutes in a 12oz cup of boiling hot water. Add a teaspoon of honey and enjoy. I've been able to get a second cup from the same buds by placing them in a half cup of water and boiling it for 2.5 minutes in the microwave, let it steep for 3 more minutes. Pull the bag, let it cool a little and give a good squeeze into your cup. I top up the cup add my honey and enjoy.  I think the 2nd cup may have even more flavor than the first.  My cat mint tea time is 20 minutes prior to bed and I've been sleeping very well. The flavor is mild and minty. One ounce will make you lots of tea.
