I acquired this recently from the estate of someone whose grandfather owned a car dealership around the turn of the last Century. I will be listing more programs and automobilia ephemera from the first two decades of the 20th century shortly so please check my other auctions if you are interested in such.this auction is for:
The Racing Program for the OAKLAND PORTOLA ROAD RACE which took place October 23rd, 1909. The race was a part of the Portola festival which was promoted as a way of showing the world that the Bay Area had rebounded from the 1906 earthquake and ready for business again. The race was notable for the fact that a world record for speed was broken in it. the course was a 21 mile loop run for 12 time or 250 miles total. The race also known as "the Oakland Cup" was won by Jack Fleming in his Pope-Toledo. The cars entered in the race : Model R. Knox , Pope-Hartford, Stevens-Duryea, .Advertisements for Mitchell motor car,, Stevens-Duryea motor cars, Pullman, the Winton Six, Renault, Rambler, Michelin tires, Fisk Tires, The Kissel, Havoline Oil, and others. There is a full page ad for the Woods Electrics Queen Victoria electric car.or more interesting early racing and automobile ephemera.
