To Propagate
: Seed requires no pretreatment with germination in 7-14 days.
An easy to germinate and grow native flowering shrub with four seasons interest. Large white flowerheads contrast against a soothing green colored large oak-shaped leaves. The leaves turn a red to the more usual deep burgundy in the fall. After leaf drop oakleaf hydrangea’s attractive exfoliating bark is revealed.
Prefers a sheltered location in the northernmost part of its range but is adaptable elsewhere to most conditions. Native to bluffs, woods, and stream banks oakleaf hydrangea can be grown in sun or part-shade.
Great as a specimen, hedge, or in open woodlands. Blooms on old wood so pruning is best after flowering if blooms are desired. Also prefers a generous layer of mulch as the conditions found when growing in nature.
Grows well in the cold winters of the north and hot, humid summers of the south.
Note
: If you order more than one lot of one species of seeds, for example you place two orders of 100 seeds, or whatever variation is offered, we assume you want 200 seeds and your order will be sent in one seed packet.
