A stunning native shrub with an open, airy forms which best shows off its orchid, catalpa-like white to fuchsia-colored fragrant flowers.
Native to desert stream bans and depressions, this native shrub is found throughout the southwest into Mexico. Easily grown in full sun and drier soils it forms a single trunk and flowering in late spring to early summer. The long willow-like leaves of dessert willow provide dappled shade and add to
cooling
appearance of this plant.
Dessert willow is most often used as a specimen or hedge. Great for tough places and is often use in parking lot islands for this reason where its wispy leaves and gorgeous blooms are appreciated. Can be pruned up to reveal the attractive trunk and bark and allow for underplantings.
