    Product description
    :
Medinilla (Medinilla) is an evergreen beautifully flowering shrub from the Melastomaceae family. Some of the 100 known species grow as lianas. The plant is widespread in the jungles of Asia and Africa, on the island of Madagascar. Medinilla's homeland is the Philippines. In Europe , medinilla was first planted in the greenhouse of the Englishman Mr. Veitch in the middle of the XIX century . The perennial shrub develops at an average rate. Being the largest epiphytic plant, it sometimes grows up to 1.5 m in natural conditions.
The domestic medinilla is shorter, from 0.7 to 1.2 m, but otherwise looks like a wild relative. It is not easy to grow a medinilla, but the more interesting the task is for the florist. The plant will thank him for his care with an original long-lasting flowering. From the end of April to the middle of July, you can admire the large racemose inflorescences, similar to lilac.
Medinilla magnifica, the showy medinilla or rose grape is a species of flowering plant in the family Melastomataceae, native to the Philippines. This plant is also commonly known as the Philippine orchid, citation needed and it is an epiphyte. Various species and hybrids in this family are well known and popular with plant collectors with Medinilla speciosa being found almost identical.
The plant grows up to 3 m tall, with opposite, firm, leathery leaves, which grow to 20–30 cm long in an ovate shape with a short point. The flowers grow in panicles up to 50 cm long, with ovid pink bracts. The individual flowers are up to 25 mm in size, and are pink, red or violet. The fruits are violet, fleshy berries, about 1 cm wide.
According to astrobiologists, contemplation of a blooming medinilla calms, relieves stress and heals mental suffering. A large plant has powerful energy, helps to replenish the reserve of mental strength. Taking care of an unusual flower that is difficult to grow at home, you can forget about your suffering. Medinilla harmonizes the situation in the surrounding space, balances the energy flows of family members.
    Instructions for planting and care:
Basic rules of care at home
To see how beautifully the medinilla blooms at home, she needs to create not just good, but ideal conditions:
    Temperature
In winter – up to + 17 ° C; in spring and summer + 21 — 25 ° C, a higher temperature has a bad effect on the flower; in autumn the temperature is gradually lowered.
    Air humidity
High, about 75%; put on a pallet with wet pebbles, spray.
    Lighting
Diffused bright light, shaded from direct sunlight; in winter – additional illumination.
    Watering
The surface of the soil should dry out; in spring and autumn they are watered abundantly, in winter – moderately.
    Ground
1 part of perlite and peat for 2 portions of deciduous earth and humus; ready-made soil mixture for epiphytic plants.
    Fertilizing and fertilizing
From mid–spring to early autumn - 1 time every 14 days with liquid universal fertilizer; in winter they are not fed.
    Transfer
Young – every year in the spring, adults – after 2, 5 years.
    Reproduction
Seeds (February – March) or semi–woody cuttings (January - May).
It is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of growing medinilla in order to grow a beautiful and healthy plant. It is fundamentally important to create a warm and humid atmosphere (some growers grow medinilla in a florarium or showcase for this purpose). From the end of autumn to the end of winter, the flower is kept at a lower temperature so that new buds are laid. Pruning is carried out in the spring. When flowering ends, the branches on which the flowers grew are cut off and watering is reduced.
The medinilla flower adapts at home with great difficulty. Not everyone can grow a real tropical miracle in an ordinary apartment: the plant is too capricious. But you can make friends with medinilla if you really want to and create optimal conditions for her.
    Growing medinilla from seeds
Seed propagation is carried out in mid-February – early March. Fresh seeds are sown in a moistened peat-sand mixture. Cover with a film and place in a warm place. The film is removed to moisten the soil and ventilate the seedlings. At the end of spring, when 2-3 leaves appear on the plants, they are transplanted. Medinilla, grown from seeds, blooms at the age of 5.
