    Product description
    :
Anthurium (Latin Anthurium) is a genus of beautiful evergreen plants of the family Araceae (Araceae). Perhaps the most numerous genus of its family. Some sources number up to 900, others about 500 species.
Most species are epiphytes and semi-epiphytes with shortened stems and aerial roots, there are long-stemmed lianas and ground grasses among the genus, common in the tropics and subtropics of the New World. The range of the genus extends from northern Mexico and the Greater Antilles to Southern Brazil, Northern Argentina and Paraguay.
The leaves are leathery, of various shapes and sizes — whole, incised, deeply dissected, from a few centimeters to 1 m long, often beautifully colored — with a velvety tint, or satin luster, or silvery veins. Some species have ornamental-painted, large ones.
Anthurium flowers, original in structure and attractive in color, are closely assembled into a dense inflorescence of a long cylindrical or coniferous cob, to which the genus owes its name, from the Greek "anthos" — flower, "oura" — tail. The shape of the inflorescence in some anthuriums really resembles a tail.
The cob is provided with a multicolored leaf — covering, which in most species of the genus is small, greenish, sometimes large, brightly colored, matte or shiny. In some countries, the anthurium is called the "flamingo flower". After flowering, juicy berry-like fruits develop from the fertilized ovaries, which in some species are brightly colored and completely cover the cob.
In culture, species and garden forms of the genus anthurium are extremely widespread and are considered one of the leaders among the aroids in popularity, primarily as cut plants.
The plant is quite capricious, it is difficult to grow at home, many types of anthurium are intended only for heated greenhouses.
Anthuriums are grown as beautifully flowering and decorative deciduous plants, as well as for cutting.
    Instructions for planting and care:
The vast majority of cultivated species of the genus anthurium are epiphytes, which imposes special requirements on indoor cultivation. Many species are well grown in warm and humid greenhouses.
    Lighting.
Anthuriums prefer diffused light, and tolerate partial shade well. From direct sunlight should be shaded. Windows with east and north-west orientation are optimal for them.
    Temperature.
All representatives of the genus Anthurium need evenly warm content throughout the year, without drafts. In summer, the optimum temperature is between 20-28 ° C, not lower than 18 ° C. If possible, from September to February, keep plants at a temperature of 15-16 ° C. Only Scherzer anthurium hybrids for laying flower buds require a cooler regime (12-16 ° C) in winter for 6-8 weeks, while reducing moisture. If you want the anthurium to bloom earlier, then in January the temperature is gradually increased to 20-25 ° C.
    Watering.
Anthuriums are watered abundantly, so that the top layer dries out between watering. Do not allow the drying of the earthen coma. In order to have abundant flowering plants in winter, watering is reduced in September, the relative humidity is maintained within 80-85%, the air temperature is reduced if possible (to 16-18 ° C). Soft water (rainwater) is optimal for irrigation; if tap water contains a lot of lime, it should be softened. The most common mistake is waterlogging of the substrate, in an excessively waterlogged substrate, their roots quickly rot, which can lead to the death of plants. Stagnation of water in the pan is unacceptable, it must be drained immediately after watering.
    Humidity of the air.
Anthuriums like high humidity — 85-95%. All anthuriums suffer from dry air in residential areas, especially species with beautifully colored, thinner leaves (anthurium crystal and anthurium majestic). Plant stems are recommended to be lined with sphagnum moss or other hygroscopic material, which should be sprayed regularly. This increases the humidity of the air, gives the necessary moisture to the air roots and stimulates their growth, which usually stops quickly in a room with dry air. To maintain sufficient air humidity, it is better to put plants on a pallet with wet gravel or expanded clay. To increase humidity, the pots are kept immersed in sphagnum moss, keeping it constantly moist. For the same purposes, an air humidifier can be used in a room with this plant. Optimal conditions can be created when growing anthuriums in a room greenhouse. Dust from the leaves is washed off with a soft sponge soaked in warm water. In the summer, spraying with soft warm water is useful. During flowering, they are sprayed carefully so that water does not get on the flowers, from this they have brown spots and decorative effect is lost.
    Fertilizer.
Anthuriums are fed in the spring-summer period 1 time in 2-3 weeks. Since anthuriums are sensitive to an overabundance of mineral salts and lime, fertilizers are applied in a dilute concentration. As a complex fertilizer, azofoska can be recommended at a concentration of 1 g / l with the addition of potassium humate in an amount of 200-300 mg / l. Weekly foliar feeding on leaves is the most effective.
Fertilizing with organic fertilizers is very effective, but not always available. It is possible to apply leaf humus, half-ripened horse or cow manure to the surface of the substrate in the form of mulch, as well as once a month to water the plants with an infusion of chicken manure or fermented mullein infusion.
    Blossom.
The laying of buds is stimulated by cool wintering at a temperature of 15-16 ° C. With proper care, plants can bloom throughout the summer. Anthurium Andre hybrids can bloom for almost the whole year. It is better to cut off the faded inflorescences so that they do not form seeds and do not weaken the plant. To tie the seeds, artificial pollination is carried out with a clean brush.
Cut blossomed inflorescences persist from 3-5 weeks, if the cob is not dead, they wither within 2-3 days.
    Soil.
For growing plants in pots, very loose, coarse-fibrous, moisture- and air-permeable land substrates with a slightly acidic reaction (pH — 5.0-6.0) are used. The substrate should consist of components with large particles. It should hold the plant well, retain moisture and nutrients, dry out easily and let in air. At the same time, it should not decompose quickly, shrink and condense. Drainage from cuttings and a layer of sand is laid on the bottom of the pots. The substrate consists of peat, chopped moss and turf (2:2:1), or of deciduous earth, peat and sand with the addition of charcoal and softwood bark and sometimes sphagnum. You can also use another substrate consisting of coarse-fibrous deciduous earth, chopped marsh moss and light turf (2:1:1). Bone meal can be added to the mixture. A good substrate is pine bark with a size of pieces from 2 to 5 cm, but it is applicable mainly in greenhouse culture, provided regular fertilizing. Good results are obtained by a substrate composed of 2 parts of pumice (pieces from 1 to 3 cm in size), 2 parts of pine bark (pieces 2-5 cm in size), 1 part of coarse fibrous peat and 1 part of semi-ripe horse manure. Such a substrate is well aerated, sufficiently moisture-intensive and retains nutrients well. For young plants, smaller fractions of its components are used. Good results can also be obtained by using a substrate composed of equal parts of large expanded clay (2-3 cm in diameter), coarse peat and pine bark (fractions of 2-3 cm). As you can see, the choice of substrates is quite large. You can constantly change them or stop at one of them.
    Seed reproduction.
Anthurium flowers are bisexual, i.e. each flower has stamens and pistils. However, they mature unevenly. Immediately after the deployment of the bedspread from the bottom of the cob, moving gradually upward, female flowers — pistils ripen, secreting secretory fluid. Then, only after 3-4 weeks, pollen appears — male flowers ripen.
Artificial pollination is carried out on a dry sunny day with a soft brush, carefully transferring pollen from one flower to another. For successful pollination, the flowers must be of varying degrees of maturity in order to have both ripe pollen and the stigmas of the pistils ready for fertilization. Pollination of the same inflorescence is carried out several times.
Anthurium fruits in the cob have the shape of a berry. The seeds in the berry ripen about 8-10 months after pollination of the flowers. The seeds quickly lose their germination, and they must be sown immediately after harvesting, the ripe fruits are kneaded, washed first with water to remove the remnants of the pulp, and then with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or 0.2% fundazole.
Seeds can be sown in bowls with a very light, loose soil mixture, they are laid out and slightly pressed into the ground. It is recommended to pour a very thin layer of perlite on the top layer of the earth, which will retain moisture well and create a more sterile surface of the substrate. Seeds are not sprinkled on top. After sowing, the bowls are covered with glass.
Very good results are obtained when sowing in bacteriological cups on filter paper with cotton wool. Shoots appear after 10-14 days at a temperature of 20-24 ° C. Seedlings develop slowly.
Picking is carried out after the appearance of a real leaf in a very light and loose ground in boxes or bowls. The composition of the land mixture may include leafy earth, coniferous, heather, riding peat with the addition of pine bark, charcoal, fern roots, dry mullein, etc. After picking, the seedlings are abundantly watered and further maintain uniform humidity and a constant temperature of 20-24 ° C. As the seedlings grow, they dive 2-3 more times, placing them more freely.
It must be remembered that during seed propagation, varietal plants can remove decorative qualities.
    Precautions
Anthuriums, like all aroids, are poisonous, especially young leaves. May cause vomiting, diarrhea, contact dermatitis. If there are small children, then make sure that they do not chew the leaves and stems!
